The Nutrition Program is extremely fortunate to have several medical groups come to Hospital Ste. Croix each year to hold mobile medical clinics in our Hearth communities. This provides an opportunity for people in Leogane villages who may be too sick to travel to Hospital Ste. Croix, live too far away, or cannot afford hospital fees, to receive quality medical care in their own village. All patients are charged a nominal fee required by the Ministry of Health. All patients- adult, pediatric, and dental- are invited to receive treatment, though our emphasis is on providing pediatric care and identifying children with malnutrition. At each mobile clinic, a local Nutrition Program monitrice holds a nutritional meal demonstration (using local ingredients to make a highly nutritious porridge known as AK1000) and provides a meal to all children visiting the clinic. Over the years, these medical clinics have made a tremendous impact on the health of rural Leogane. |
